Easy Baked Pears

Pears are the new baked dessert to take over from apples.

It’s true; I liked the concept more than I thought I would enjoy them. This is especially true when compared with an Apple Crisp, my favorite fall dessert. This dish, however, has stolen my heart.

It was ” perfect,” according to our neighbors. I must agree. I literally spooned every last drop of caramel sauce, melty ice cream, and buttery pear into my mouth. This is a fall must.

This perfect recipe is perfect for the holidays and beyond. This dish is elegant, delicious, and easy to make (only 30 minutes plus one word is required). We’ll show you exactly how to do it!

The first step is to cut the pears in half and remove the cores. The stems can be left on to add an extra touch of elegance.

The pears are then drizzled with avocado or coconut oil to increase caramelization and topped with maple syrup and coconut sugar to boost the sweetness. Apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger all add fall flavors.

This sauce is perfect for drizzling over pears, ice cream, and other desserts.

The pears will be baked with the cut side down for about 15 minutes until they are tender. They will then be baked again and cut side up for another few minutes to caramelize them. It’s so easy!

Ingredients

  • We like to use organic pears (Bartlett) and a few small to medium pears that are just ripe.
  • 2 tsp melted coconut or avocado oil (omit if oil-free)
  • Use 3-4 tablespoons of Coconut Sugar.
  • Maple syrup 2 Tbsp
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger (or sub-fresh)
  • 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • Lemon juice 2 Tbsp

FOR SERVING optional

  • Coconut Whipped Cream
  • Vanilla Coconut Yogurt (we love Culina)
  • Vanilla Bean Coconut Ice Cream

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. (176 C). Set out a baking dish 9×13 inches (or of similar size).
  • Half pears, remove the core and remove with a measuring spoon or small spoon. Keep stems on for an elegant presentation. Place cut-side up in your baking dish.
  • Add oil, coconut syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger, as well as apple cider vinegar and lemon juice.
  • Bake pears for 20-30 minutes, cut-side-down (uncovered), or until they are tender. (A knife should easily slide through if you use larger/firmer pears.) Remove them carefully from the oven, flip them cut-side up, and bake for an additional five minutes to caramelize their tops.
  • Enjoy with vanilla yogurt or coconut whipped cream (we like Culina), Coconut Whipped Cream, or Vanilla Bean Coconut Ice Cream. Pour over the caramel sauce that is left in the pan to add extra flavor.
  • The best is when it’s fresh. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to two days. Reheat the pieces in the microwave or an oven at 350 degrees F (176 C) until heated through. This product is not freezer-friendly.
