Caramelized onion dip

You can look past the outward appearance of the caramelized onion dip to its soul, which is luscious and delicious. It’s also great to share with your friends. Imagine a caramelized onion spread that could be used in burgers and sandwich spreads. Maybe even something to add extra flavor to your eggs.

How to Make Caramelized Onion Dip

Slice a few onions.

In a pan, caramelize the onions.

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl.

Water can be used to soften the caramelization if you don’t want to use wine. The most important thing is TIME. All they need is time. They need time. Once you see that they are a deep golden color, give them another 10 minutes to be sure. We are looking for deep, dark, soft, and aromatic.

Then, it’s pretty simple: cream cheese, soured cream, a little of this, a little of that…

Caramelizing onions is a topic that we will discuss.

This is where you will spend about 90% of the time on this recipe. It takes some time to caramelize onions, but it is WORTH the wait. Oh, so worth it.

We want to caramelize the onions slowly and gently. We don’t want them to burn. Please be patient, as caramelized onions may take 30-40 minutes.

How do you know that your onions have *officially* been caramelized? They will be golden brown and very soft.

What to serve with caramelized onion dip

The food blogger who is obsessed with chips says that they are an excellent dipping choice. I like sour cream and cheddar ruffle cut chips, but potato chips will do. Bagel chips, Pita chips, and pretzel crisps are also good (especially Parmesan Garlic!) Why are they so good? And if you want to go veggie, then snap peas, red peppers, and cherry tomatoes would be nice.

You can cut the recipe in half if you’re making it for two people. This recipe will make a LOT of dips. This is perfect for a large holiday party of 10-15 people.

It will be kept in the refrigerator for 3-4 days so you can enjoy it again on your next meal. I have never found a savory meal that didn’t benefit from the addition of a spoonful of caramelized onions.
